I have never understood why there are specific days to announce your appreciation for a person. I mean there is: Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Grandparents Day, Secretarys Day, birthdays etc.

Do we need another day?

According to Gary Vaynerchuk in a great (link bait!) video, he calls for April 3rd to become Good People Day.

Really?

As first, I was non-plussed. My natural douchebag came out, and I began to think about the snarky things I could tweet and blog about.

A whole day?

But as I began to write the post, I found myself thinking about all the good people I know. I mean literally, there are hundreds and hundreds. Everyone I interact with has to pass the first test with me.

For good people?

Respect. And Respect for me always comes from goodness.

Why not a whole year? Or forever?

So, I decided, what the heck, I would jump into this Good People Day concept. But rather than list everyone or a ton of people, I would tweet out specific follow suggestions for specific people, and why I thought it was good to follow those folks.

Ok. I will be down for the one day thing, as long as everyone remembers to acknowledge all the good people in their lives every day.

But, there is one Good Person that I have to mention in a blog post: Richard Baldwin.

Rich, is technically my adoptive father, who after marrying my mother legally adopted me. He was 19 years old when I was born, and man did we battle through out my life. At least until I was done with college.

Then, for some reason, I think we finally got each other. We realized that we both had the same goal, the betterment of each other.

Now, I often call Rich for advice. I double check with him before any large decision.

He was the first person I talked to about my decision to be sober and what lead to that decision.

Rich Baldwin is Good People. He is the type of Good People I wish I will be one day.

I hope that each of you have a Good Person in your life like Rich. Someone who reminds you of what you could be, and that being that is possible.

Happy Good People Day!
