In a word, preserver with a blog. Or whatever you want people to do in regards to communication. If they don't come after a certain period of time, quit. Maybe they aren't interested in that particular topic.

I'm going to keep this post as a reminder - Thanks

I think the trick is that rather than hoping and hoping for that first comment, you actually go and invite people to join. ("Hey greg, I just wrote a post that I really like, would you mind giving it a read?") Friends will give you good advice and be happy to help you start the convo.

Good point. It is always that first blog comment that is needed before other people are attracted to join the conversation as well. Having good connections and relationships via different social media channels helps getting that first comment.

Micah, this is spot on, man. This maps to my blogging experience perfectly. My initial attempts to get people to 'converse' about my posts felt contrived and forceful when I first started writing...yet all that pre-dated Twitter and other tools that truly help conversation start flowing. Twitter indeed has been like the cocktail hour before the main feast...getting conversation swirling then assist me in carrying the conversation to the dining room to where I need them to be: on my site.

Awesome read.
