Goremet – A Frighteningly Great Idea
A month or two ago, I was having lunch with my friend Jeffrey and the conversation circled around to the types of events that occur in Boulder.
“Every event for the tech community centers on tech,” Jeffrey lamented.
“Whatever,” I dismissed.
“I am going to find an event that the Boulder Tech community can do that is fun, but involves no technology.” Jeffrey exclaimed.
“Im eating,” I muttered.
About a month later, Danny and Jeffrey call me (well instant message me. We are nerds and we dont like the face to face too often) to tell me about this great idea they came up with “Goremet.” A dinner party where the highlight was watching horror movies.
“It will be great!” Jeffrey typed.
“Can you imagine, Micah” Danny, well, typed.
“Im looking at porn.” I typed. With one hand.
After some careful planning (in nerd world that means putting up a Facebook page, and clicking “invite all” to your friends), last night 40 people or so descended on Danny’s house in Denver, food in hand, for a night of food and horror movies.
When I learned that Justin and Shannon were coming up from Austin and Kelly was coming in from SF, I knew that this quaint idea of Jeffrey and Danny, was going to be awesome.
And awesome it was. There was great food (including a Kitty Litter Cake by Rachel and Heather–who should really open a bake shop) and we watched the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hills Have Eyes. Around 1am or so, the party began to thin out and everyone headed home to a frightful sleep full of nightmares and boogeymen.
(Except for me. I got home to two amped up puppies that decided it was just about time to chase each other for a couple of hours and tell me all about in mid-stride. Ah the joys of dog ownership.)
Here is the Flickr Photo Set: Goremet I.
