Great post. I love how you can turn a loss of a bet into an opportunity to talk about yourself (JUST KIDDING). This was a touching post, and it is nice to hear others stories about their families and get re-affirmation on the importance of the family and the memories.

@queenofspain – My father has never been a “sports guy,” but he coached my soccer teams for years. I love sports. I have coached and played lacrosse for 18 years, and need to find a place to coach in Boulder…soon.

@kath. Thank you for the praise. My neighbors have had season tickets since the first game. I remember all the old broken players on the team in the first year.

Micah- clearly one of the best posts you’ve ever written. I am glad you lost the bet.

I remember the Shark’s first season at the Tank. That was a heady time in San Jose that coincided with a really great time in my life that I’ll never forget.

I get my love of sports from my family. It was always a ‘family’ activity. I was a rink rat, a pond princess, and a baseball orphan when my brother’s career took off at 14. I played basketball, softball, hockey, and football in the street with neighbor kids on Sundays.

Hockey Night in Canada’s theme song is like…comfort. Folding laundry on Sundays with football on in the background is just what you do.

I think that’s just a healthy dose of home and love to know and follow a team-at least for me. I’m glad to hear your roots and your teams really do ‘mean’ something-because it makes all the difference!
