Friendly Intelligence – January 5, 2008
I decided to take a day or two off from the Internet, and so this post is a day late. Still, I was amazed at the wonderful posts my friends wrote over the past week. When I started this project a month and a half ago, I was following about 35 blogs. I am now up to 72 blogs, all written by people I physically know. I’m sure there are more out there, so please feel free to send me your blog url to micah [at] currentwisdom [dot] com. I look forward to reading them!
So You Want to Become An Entrepreneur in 2008? 8 Tops From Japan On Becoming Your Own Boss -It is always interesting to me to read what self-proclaimed “startup junkies” think about entrepreneurship. Gwen writes about her experiences starting a yoga studio in Japan. Of all her points, the two that resonate with me the most are: Own your decision to start a business, and just get started. I am a firm believer that the worst thing you can do with an idea is nothing.
Passion is a best practice. – My friend Deb has been a successful entrepreneur, starting a company called 10 Things To Do With Kids and so passion is certainly something she is (wait for it) passionate about. Now a successful consultant in Washington, DC, she is helping other entrepreneurs to realize their passion.
From Where come the Dare in Daredevil – A new blogger, Matt Hessler was my co-founder at Current Wisdom. A pretty quiet unassuming guy, when he writes he seems to really delve into concepts. I suggest checking out his take on risk.
Word of Mouth: The New Scalability? – Eric was one of the main reasons FeedBurner was such a success. Now, he has taken his magic to BuzzFeed which focuses on word of mouth advertising. An area that I am very interested in, I imagine we are going to have a ton to talk about in the upcoming months.
US Solider & Blogger Major Andrew Olmsted Was Killed In Iraq Yesterday And Left A Final Blog Post – I met Raanan while in San Francisco before the holidays. He spends a lot of his time thinking about the importance of blogging and the post of Major Andrew Olmsted, as tragic as it is, is a great example.
Highlights and Hopes – I met Jared at StartupWeekend DC. He was brash and outspoken and pushed my buttons a bit. But he was also intelligent and insightful. If you read a bunch of end of year posts, they usually talk about predictions or analysis. Read Jared’s, its raw and specific.
Second Child Syndrome – Tom writes about his dogs. I cant pass up a good dog post.
