When I started this blog, I attempted to “fatblog” I wanted to blog about my experience losing weight. Over time, I kinda stopped really trying to lose weight, and this blog’s focus shifted.

My good friend, Matt Hessler, recently commented on my random realizations of 2007 post that he was surprised that I listed staying sober as easier than losing weight. So, I decided it was time to try again.

This time, rather than writing about it, I decided that I would just post pictures. I started TUMMYblr (thanks Danny Newman for the name inspiration).

Tummyblr is hosted on the tumblr platform. By sending an email to t6vn86sb@tumblr.com I can post pictures of my ever shrinking (or expanding) tummy. But, I decided that I wouldnt have it be just an ego project. Instead, anyone that emails a picture to t6vn86sb@tumblr.com, will be included in TUMMYblr.

You dont have to just want to lose weight. Maybe, like my friend Gwen, you want to build up a body part. Regardless, feel free to be a part of the project.

Check it out. Let me know what you think.

I don’t know what your food issues are, but for me, sugar and refined carbs are the equivalent of alcohol.

    1. They’re often consumed for social reasons, or in situations where resistance is difficult.
    2. They’re consumed because I like the way they taste in the short term, but hate the way they make me feel in the long term.
    3. They’re addictive and lead to binging.
    4. They’re harmful to my body and my health.
    5. My addiction to them appears to be a mix of genetic and environmental factors.
    6. I can see the detrimental effects when I look at family and friends.

So my current way of coping (and one which has been quite successful in the past) is to completely abstain. Somehow, that’s more accepted when it comes to alcohol: people recognize that people who are alcoholics must completely abstain, but I still hear that dealing with my carboholic nature by abstaining is somehow “unhealthy.”

Some people are able to deal with the “everything in moderation” approach, but there does need to be a recognition that some foods just have to be off limits for some people. And, perhaps that’s a potential approach to focusing on weight loss, by using the strategies you’ve used to achieve sobriety.

I’ve tried a million different things. So, I think to start, I am going to just do what I know is right (and you are right), and see where it takes me.

I might do a major cleanse soon, but I am not sure if thats what I want to put my body through that yet…
